An exhibition inspired by the Cookham dig, Saxon archaeological excavation goes on display this September, celebrating the discoveries being unearthed beneath the village.
The Friends of Cookham Abbey supports the University of Reading’s excavation of the Anglo-Saxon monastery next to Holy Trinity Church, Cookham annually.
The dig happens for four weeks each summer, with 100 archaeologists and over 2,000 visitors. 2026 is the sixth season, and there will be at least three more seasons.
Emma Przygrodzka a ceramic artist and designer, and the current Artist in Residence at the Cookham Abbey excavation, has organised an exhibition inspired by the Cookham dig Saxon archaeological excavation.
Called UNEARTHED, the exhibition brings together the work of three artists inspired by the discoveries made during this summer's archaeological dig. The exhibition takes place at Cookham Parish Centre on September 12th and 13th, as part of both the Cookham & Maidenhead Arts Trail (CAMAT) and Cookham Heritage Weekend.
The exhibition also features guest artists Sarah Horlock and Pippa Shire. Doors are open both days 10am to 5pm and allows visitors to explore contemporary art, archaeology and the village's rich history.
