Kirsty Brooks is an artist and designer based in Maidenhead and has been creating artworks to commission for over twenty years. She attended Wimbledon College of Art and studied architectural glass and painting at Edinburgh College of Art. Kirsty’s practice is research based and often involves extensive archive research and community and client consultation. Working collaboratively with architects and landscape architects, she creates site-specific artworks which reinforce a sense of place. Recent projects include a glass and metal artwork for St John’s College, Oxford and a series of concrete benches and glazed artworks for Anglia Ruskin University. She is currently developing a public art strategy for Heyford Park in Oxfordshire on the site of disused U.S. cold war air force base.

CATEGORY: FUSED GLASS

VENUE 2: Nutfield, Altwood Bailey, Maidenhead, SL6 4PQ

Her passion for glass and colour started almost 30 years ago. She loves to explore the endless possibilities of working in glass and relishes the anticipation of opening the kiln to see a new creation or creating a stained-glass window design for a customer. She will be showing both fused glass artworks alongside resin jewellery and is happy to take commissions.

Susan is a ceramicist currently working in porcelain. Her work is process led exploring the properties, particularly translucency, of the porcelain clay. This led to the development of her range of porcelain lamps and tea light holders which she has been making for over ten years. Each year she collects leaves and flowers from different places and seasons which she used to impress into the porcelain. To complement these she makes vessels with abstract images of the landscape constructed using coloured clay and hand-built tableware.

During her MA Jeanne began recycling charity shop finds into her hand built ceramic pieces. Endeavouring to create socially responsible ceramics by reinvigorating discarded pots to create sculptures that suggest something that exists in nature but not a representation of any specific plant. Jeanne's red glaze used on both her hand built and thrown pots has connotations of blood, reproduction and femininity.

"If it walks, swims or flies, I am passionate about immortalising it in clay. I add detail by imprinting texture using random items. These could be anything from lace, shells, braid, rubber stamping to just odd bits from ‘that drawer’ in the kitchen !
My pieces can be personalised to include names, dates, interests, work-related detail or just fun stuff which may appeal to those who have ‘hard-to-buy-for’ friends !"

Alison gives her creatures personality and attitude.
