VENUE 19: Artists at St. Piran's, St. Piran's School, Gringer Hll, Maidenhead

Kate has been working in textiles exclusively for the past 12 years. Currently she is interested in depicting the British countryside and wildlife, particularly in the South of England. Starting with white fabric, her work uses hand dyed and hand printed textiles, which are collaged and stitched to build up a rich surface. The effects of light and shadow are important in Kate’s work, as is subtle use of colour and texture. She enjoys using the randomly marked fabric to create accidental texture and tonal variations. A large stash of fabric is needed to have every tone and colour instantly available!

VENUE 12: Gantry Barn Artists,  School Lane, Cookham, SL6 9QN

I use freemotion embroidery to create drawings using my sewing machine. I am passionate about fabric and what can be created using it. The possibilities, in my eyes, are endless from portraits to applique pictures. I enjoy playing with new materials and discovering new techniques to keep my work a continuous evolution. I take inspiration from the everyday object to something ethereal in order to satisfy an idea. Recently I have been working much more intuitively on contemporary textile artworks which incorporate hand stitching.
